Call me obsessed, but I LOVE living in a healthy body.
My routine at home makes being healthy easy, but I have noticed that anytime I break that routine my health suffers.
Nowhere is that more evident than when I travel.
Long flights, zone time changes, exposure to different foods all start to drain me of energy and makes me feel like I am living in someone else’s body.
This summer my daughter is competing internationally for her sport. This has me traveling quiet a bit to be with her at these competitions. I decided that I needed a game plan for all this travel. I didn’t want to get to the end of the summer and realize that my health had gotten off track.
Here are a few of the tricks I have been using that have been working incredibly well.
If you have been following my blog posts, you know that I love the benefits of fasting. When you are in situations where you can’t get the food you love, fasting comes in handy.
For years I was the person who couldn’t go without food. Then I discovered low carb, high fat, intermittent fasting living. At first this way of eating was awkward. It took me months to get used to the intermittent fasting.
But once it clicked for me, I never went back to breakfast again. And my whole relationship with food changed. For the first time in my life I could go long periods without food. Nowhere has this been more helpful than when I travel.
I have written about Restore before. An endocrinologist, Dr. Zac Bush, discovered that we are missing some key bacteria in our diet that helps our gut heal. These bacteria specifically keep the mucosal lining of our gut strong. When this lining weakens, toxins are allowed into our bloodstream and cause a whole host of health challenges. This condition is known as leaky gut.
The foods that hurt this mucosal lining the most are glyphosate, pesticides, harmful oils, and food additives. When you eat out, you are typically getting exposed to many of these chemicals.
I take a travel size restore with me, making sure that I take prior to any meal I have. Helps minimize the toxins allowed into my bloodstream.
3.ENZYMES & BIND
So what do you do when you eat a meal out and feel horrible afterward? That’s where enzymes and BIND come in handy.
Enzymes help you breakdown the harmful food that you come in contact with. My two favorite enzyme combinations are D Digest and Z Gluten by Systemic Formulas. Both work great! I tend to use D Digest for travel out of the country and Z Gluten for travel at home. D Digest is also more high powered than Z gluten.
BIND is the best version of activated charcoal I have found. It binds to toxins in your gut and helps remove them from your body. Not only is it a helpful cure for the nights you might have overindulged on drinks and dessert, it keeps your bowels regular making sure toxins are freely exiting your system.
Two BIND before you go to bed while on vacation will have you waking up the next morning feeling great and ready to go for another day of adventure.
Who likes jet lag?
Well if you are anything like me, I love my sleep. And jet lag is no doubt the nemesis of my vacations. I have played with lots of different strategies to minimize jet lag, but nothing has helped me as greatly as DREM.
DReM is a supplement that is designed to promote a restful, relaxed state and relieve occasional sleeplessness It’s a high powered melatonin supplement that also contains key neurotransmitters like GABA and tryptophan that relax your brain.
I use this supplement on flights to help me sleep and for those restless nights where the time change has my body confused.
