Avocado Fat

healthy avocado fat

Not all fats are created equal. Avocadoes contain Oleic acid, a monounsaturated fat which, for simplicity sake, is considered a “good fat.” Fats are classified as “good” or “bad” according to how they affect your cholesterol levels. In a seven day study that included avocadoes, participants were able to reduce their total cholesterol and LDL (bad) cholesterol and raise their HDL (good) cholesterol by 11%. Low LDL levels and high HDL levels are important for cardiovascular health and to reduce your chances for heart disease and stroke. Avocadoes are also high in potassium and folate, a mineral and nutrient that aids in blood pressure control and heart health. If this scientific jargon has put you to sleep, just remember one thing, eating avocadoes is good for your heart health.

San Jose Chiropractor on Allergies

Chiropractor and allergies

Spring is in the air and with it a bunch of sneezing, a lot of itchy eyes, and a symphony of coughs. Entire aisles are devoted to eliminating some or all of these symptoms, though, unfortunately, with many side effects. Allergies result when the immune system incorrectly perceives environmental elements, such as pollen, grass, and trees as “invaders,” and reacts accordingly. Therefore, improving the function of the immune system is paramount in the fight against allergies. This can be accomplished in a few simple ways. A healthy diet and cardiovascular exercise are great ways to build up a strong immune system. Additionally, the most important way to ensure that your immune system is strong is to maintain a properly functioning nervous system, for which the most effective approach is chiropractic care. Finding and addressing vertebral subluxations will help your nervous and immune system fight off allergies this spring. Anyone you know who suffers from allergies may greatly benefit from chiropractic care. Have them come in for a spinal exam so we can work to fight the ills of spring.

Spinal Surgery

April 9, 2009

back and spine

It has become a rare occasion to cross paths with someone who has never heard the chilling statement, “You’re going to need surgery.” With 500,000 surgical interventions per year, the rate of back surgery in the U.S. is 40% higher than any other country. Although this is a very alarming statistic, it’s more upsetting to think about the surgical candidates who CAN be helped with CHIROPRACTIC but never even consider it. The non-invasive approach to chiropractic makes it a logical alternative to the invasive and risky procedures associated with surgery. If you, or someone you know is suffering back pain and looking into surgical interventions, please consider giving chiropractic a try. Surgery is irreversible and should be a last resort. Many individuals, who were facing surgery, were able to avoid it by addressing the cause of their problems through chiropractic.
