What are Power Hours?

Power hours are our normal adjusting hours geared towards turning your power on! Our primary focus during these hours is correction of your spine and maximizing your nervous system through our manual adjustments, percussor, adjustor, and basic laser treatments. Light muscle work, stretching, and quick fascial treatments may also be included during these adjustments. Although we do require an appointment during these hours, we know that many of you like to drop-in or call on your way which is ok during our power hours but may require a short wait while we see those with appointments.

	What are Special Appointment Times?

These hours are by appointment only. They are 15 minutes blocks of time that have been set aside for nutritional consults, longer myofascial release and stretching treatments, personalized exercise programs, longer laser treatments, detailed fascial/ percussor work, or any other treatment that the doctor feels you need that may require more time. Special Appointment times will be at the request of the doctor, but if you have something that you would like to discuss with the doctor in more detail you may request a special apptointment time as well.

What if I want to refer a friend, co-worker, or family member in?

Most of our patient base comes from your referrals and we LOVE taking care of your friends and family! To better serve your loved ones we will now be scheduling new patients in our special appointment times, not our power hours This will allow us more time to concentrate on their health needs, implement more thorough exam procedures, and minimize wait times during our Power Hours. With the new special appointment times we will be able to give them our undivided attention and help determine their best path to optimum health.

What if I want a massage?

We have an amazing in house massage therapist who would love to help you! Tabonga (aka TK) has been delivering excellent massages for over a decade. We are really lucky to have her as part of our FLC family. If you haven’t experienced one of her massages yet, we highly recommend you schedule a 15 minute chair massage time with her for only $10. We also have special times set aside for full body 60 minute massages, just ask Lupe, Rocio or Tabonga and they will find the best time for you. If you have any questions about our new schedule, please ask us! If you have a particular time that works best for you and you don’t see it on our new schedule, let us know. Like always, we will get creative and do our best to serve you.

We would like to thank you for your patience and continued support as we transition to our new schedule to better serve your health needs.

Did you know that having a good posture is one of the healthiest things you can do for your body? Numerous experts are now stating that posture is not just about looking good, but could be the key to better health. According to an article in the American Journal of Pain Management, “Posture effects and moderates every physiologic function from breathing to hormonal production.

For the past fifteen years, I’ve been working with patients to improve their health by improving their posture. With the increasing popularity of smart phones and tablets, long hours at the computer, and a more sedentary modern lifestyle, poor posture is becoming a major health problem. The challenge that many people are starting to face is that poor posture can lead to cervical disc injuries, shoulder injuries, arthritis, breathing problems, hormonal imbalances, gastrointestinal problems, depression, and an impaired immune function.

Why does our posture affect our health so dramatically? The first thing to realize is that when we are standing up we have both the effects of gravity and the weight of our head pushing down on our bodies all day long. The thoracic cages’ job is to protect the vital organs, be an anchor for muscles, and a support system for the head and neck. If the head is directly over the thoracic cage, it will put the least amount of strain on the thoracic area and vital organs. The minute the head pulls forward you now have not only extra strain on the thoracic cage, organs inside of it, but your risk of neck and shoulder injury greatly increases. This type of posture is now being labeled Forward Head Syndrome. Unfortunately, this forward head posture is becoming the normal posture for most people, especially in our younger population.

What are the harmful effects of Forward Head Syndrome? Rene Cailliet, M.D., director of the department of physical medicine and rehabilitation at the University of Southern California, wrote about the effects of forward head syndrome in his book “Rejuvenation Strategy.” According to his book:

Incorrect head positioning leads to improper spinal function.

The head in forward posture can add up to 30 pounds of abnormal leverage on the cervical spine.

Forward head posture results in loss of vital lung capacity. In fact, lung capacity is depleted by as much as 30 percent. Loss of lung capacity leads to heart and blood vascular problems.

The entire gastrointestinal system is affected, particularly the large intestine. Loss of good bowel peristaltic function and evacuation is a common condition that comes with forward head posture and loss of spinal lordotic curves.

Forward head posture causes an increase in discomfort and pain. Freedom of motion in the first four cervical vertebrae is a major source of stimuli that causes production of endorphins in production many otherwise non-painful sensations are experienced as pain.

Forward head posture causes loss of healthy spine-body motion. The entire body becomes rigid as the range of motion lessens. Soon, one becomes hunched.

Recently, Dr. Roger Sperry, a Nobel Prize recipient for brain research, demonstrated that 90% of the energy output of the brain is used in relating the physical body to gravity. Only 10% of the brain’s energy is used for thinking, metabolism, and healing. If you want to improve your body and brain’s performance start with better posture.

What can you do to improve your posture?

1. Be aware

The very first step is to be aware of your posture. I recently had a teenager in my practice who went off to the Marines. When he left he had the slouched appearance that we see in many teenagers. Three months later, when he came back into my office, he was standing tall, shoulders back ,and his head held high. I asked him what he did to change his posture and he said that they were constantly on him to stand up straight. It was an incredible example of how quickly you can retrain your body by just being aware.

2. Stretch your front side and strengthen your back

What is happening to most people who sit at computers today, is that the chest muscles are shortening and the upper back muscles are lengthening. This causes the shoulders to round and the head to come forward. Start stretching your chest muscles by standing in a door way with your arms on either side and lean in. Similar to the picture to the right. Daily stretches to the chest muscles will stop them from pulling your shoulders forward. At the same time, doing upper back exercises, like seated rows, to strengthen your rhomboids will help hold those shoulders back.

3. Try a yoga class

Yoga is a great place to start if you are serious about changing your posture. What I love about yoga is that it stretches and strengthens the muscles at the same time. If you are going to yoga specifically for posture changes, let your instructor know. A good instructor will assist you throughout the class and make sure you are doing the poses correctly.

4. Go see your chiropractor

Nothing will change your posture as dramatically as a chiropractic adjustment. You can stretch and strengthen the muscles repetitively, but if the spine is not moving properly the muscles are more likely to fall back into their spasmed position. The spine has two jobs: protect the nervous system and be an anchor for muscles. Your nervous system is the mechanism in which your brain and body communicate. Just like Dr. Calliet noticed in his study, when your posture changes it damages the spine and nervous tissue the spine protects. Bad posture will ultimately lead to a poorly functioning nervous system. The key to great spinal health and great posture, starts with an evaluation from a chiropractor who specializes in posture retraining.

So stand tall, go see your chiropractor, try a yoga class, do your stretches and you will make sure your posture doesn’t take you down the path of bad health.

I was raised by a health food freak mom. As soon as we could read, my mom taught my sister and I how to read labels on packages of food. She had a list of forbidden toxic ingredients that we were not allowed to eat: sugar, red dyes, and nitrates were the main items we were to avoid. My sister and I had a game that we played at the grocery store, and that was find a yummy food item that met mom’s criteria. Some trips we would hit the jackpot and find lots of tasty and healthy treats, and other days we would leave disappointed that no new discoveries were made. I remember the one item I really wanted was a fruit roll up. All the kids at school had them. They would gleefully rip them off the plastic paper they came on and wrap them around their fingers with delight. I was so envious. I debated with my mom about those fruit roll ups for years, yet she held her ground saying that sugar was the first ingredient. She then went on to teach me that the order of ingredients in a food item told you how much it was in the food. Her rule: sugar couldn’t be in the first four ingredients. Keeping her rules in mind, I scoured the grocery store for years looking for new, exciting foods that were healthy. Little did I know then that this game taught me a life long lesson that I put to use when I went to college and started to chose my own food, and even now as a mother raising a healthy family.

Fast forward forty years, as a family Chiropractor and a mother of two I think often about how best to teach kids about health. I think about it when a parent brings their child to me who is suffering from chronic ear infections or a suppressed immune system. Or the mother who is raising athletes and wants to know the best health practices for injury prevention. I especially think about kids and health when I am in line at Starbucks and I see a group of sixteen year olds order venti frappuccinos with extra whip cream. I can’t help but think about health and our children when I drop my daughter off at her school and see the growing number of obese children. I am saddened by the state of the health of our children in our country. Not enough is being done to show our kids that health should be a priority. Despite massive research indicating that our lifestyle choices determine the diseases we will get later in life, our society is not teaching children what these choices need to be. Health is a journey, not an end result that happens upon us as adults. Just like we all work hard to teach our kids to be kind, considerate, smart, and wonderful people, we need to have a strategy for teaching our kids about health.

What are those best practices for teaching our kids about health? Well it begins with examining your own belief system about health. Most Americans are taught that health is an absence of symptoms. If you don’t have pain or any conditions requiring medications, you must be healthy. The problem with this belief system is that conditions like cancer, heart disease, and diabetes take years to develop in our bodies. During those years, most of those patients are symptom free. Unfortunately, with those three conditions, by the time they are discovered, a patient can be very ill. The first step to raising a healthy child is understanding that symptoms are not the best way to judge your health.

Numerous research studies are now showing that up to 80% of all chronic illnesses in our country are related to our lifestyle choices: what we eat, how much movement we get, and how much stress we have in our lives. Many experts now agree that we can avoid many diseases that our parents and grandparents had just by changing our lifestyle habits. What this means is if our parents had diabetes, we don’t have to get diabetes if we apply good nutritional habits when we are younger. If breast cancer runs in your family, take steps now to eat foods that don’t feed cancer cells or give the body an environment where cancer can thrive. Many doctors are preaching that most cancers can be avoided by increasing fruits and vegetables and limiting processed foods. With this current research in mind, below are what I feel are the seven key steps in teaching your children about how to live a health life.

1. The best way to judge your health is by the lifestyle choices you and your family are making.

Stop looking at health as symptom-free living. Start looking at health as a journey. Your symptoms are going to come and go. It’s your daily health habits that will determine the quality of your overall health. What type of foods are your children eating? Do you know what is in the foods that you buy? Are you getting regular fresh fruits and veggies in your diet? What is the sugar intake of your child? Do you eat out a lot? Do you eat at fast food restaurants frequently? Is your child getting lots of movement throughout the day? I always tell my patients that there are five key things you need to incorporate into your life to be healthy: good nutrition, daily movement/exercise, proper rest, a good mental attitude, and a properly functioning nervous system. I highly recommend that families use these five as a health check list. When one of these pieces is ignored, the body will move out of a state of health and be more susceptible to illness.

If you do have a child that is catching colds a lot, in pain, or dealing with poor health, you don’t want to ignore those symptoms. That is not what I am advocating. What I do strongly urge you to do is look at your lifestyle choices and see if there are food and/or activity level changes you could make in your child’s life that might help him or her feel better. Reaching for a medication is often a quick way to treat a symptom, when the real cause of a problem is a nutritional imbalance, a toxicity, a lack of movement, a stressful situation, or maybe a little of all these things.

2. How are you modeling health for your child?

The most important thing to remember is that raising a healthy child starts with you being healthy. Take a moment to step into your child’s shoes. If you were looking at you, would you see a person who works on their health everyday. Do they see or know that you exercise? Are you making good healthy food choices for yourself? Are you incorporating fruits and vegetables in the majority of your meals? Would you see a parent that prioritizes health? I treated a family in my office many years ago, where the parents were not healthy, ate fast food a lot, didn’t have good sleeping habits, and rarely exercised. They constantly asked me questions about exercise habits for their children. You could see they wanted to break the unhealthy cycle for the kids. I applauded them for thinking that way and continually advised them on strategies to implement that would make their kids healthier. The challenge was that you can’t ask your kids to implement healthy habits if you’re not willing to change. Eventually these kids grew up and started taking on the same bad habits their parents had. As much as we may want our kids to do health differently, you have to start by YOU doing health differently.

3. Start talking about health in your family.

In my household, health is a constant source of conversation. I recently read an article about a 17 year old girl who only ate McDonald’s McNuggets and now doctors are telling her that if she keeps up that trend she will die. When I picked my daughter up from school and she asked me about my day, I told her about the article. We talked about what happens to your body when you put fast food into it. I wasn’t expecting her to have a huge ah-ha moment and jump on a no fast-food band wagon with me, but what I was doing was planting seeds. Talk with your kids about the health choices you are making as a family. When we packed our kids school lunches, we would point out that we were putting fruit and a good protein source. Now that they pack their own lunch they know the healthy formula to follow. When we make dinner we explain why we choose the recipes that we did and how they benefit our health. My 9 year old son has recently become obsessed with cooking shows and making us dinner. He always points out to me that he put protein in his meals, because he know that is a crucial item for every meal in our house. This was a kid who just a few years back would constantly ask for ice cream for dinner. Perhaps the repetitive seeds I have been planting are starting to grow.

4. Teach them how to read labels.

Just like my mother did, I teach my kids how to read a nutrition label. Since my son has been a sugar lover, instead of just vetoing every sugary treat he would ask me for, I taught him how to look at the number of grams of sugar an item had. Now he will come to me with a food item and tells me right off how many grams of sugar and protein a product has. Together we talk about if that item is a healthy choice or not. It’s also a chance for me to discuss with him how much sugar he may have had that day, and how well his body will handle more. With all the chemicals that are put in foods these days, I also point out to my kids that the long words that are hard to pronounce in a food are most likely a preservative used to make the food last longer. What I love about reading labels is that we get to talk through the process of selecting foods that help your body function at it’s best. My hope is that someday when they are not under my roof, that process will be second nature to them.

5. Include them in the food choices for meals, snacks, and lunches.

Once you start talking about the food choices you are making in your household, empower your kids to start making some of the meals. This is a great opportunity to help them make healthy choices on their own. Remember that some day they will be making their own meals, so knowing how to make a great tasting healthy meal is a fantastic life skill. When we first started letting go of the control of making dinner, and let our son jump in and make a meal, it wasn’t always pretty. One of his first meals had all starchy carbohydrates topped with sugar. I applauded him for his efforts and continued to plant seeds that helped him make a more balanced meal. At 9 years old he can now make us all dinner that is not only healthy, but tasty, too.

6. Hang around people that make health a priority.

A recent study showed that having a buddy who packs on pounds makes you 57 percent more likely to do so yourself, according to the key findings of James Fowler, Ph.D., a professor at the University of California at San Diego, and Nicholas Christakis, M.D., Ph.D., a sociology professor at Harvard, who have studied social networks for 10 years. “Consciously or unconsciously, people look to others when deciding what and how much to eat, and how much weight is too much,” said Fowler.

The same thing happens with our kids. Recently my daughter told me that she was having an Izze soda pop with her lunch at school everyday. I was shocked. She knows how much I am against soda, but also knows that I will let her have an Izze soda every once in awhile because it doesn’t have high fructose corn syrup. But everyday! My health brain was freaking out. Calmly I asked her why she was having an Izze everyday, and she said because all her friends drank one with lunch everyday. The power of friends, just like the study said. I discussed with her the implications of drinking Izze’s daily had on her body. We talked about the fact that soda did not help her body function the way she wanted it to feel and perform. We also talked about everything in moderation, and an Izze every once in awhile is ok.

A few years back my daughter was quite resistant to hearing about my healthy food choices. Then something happened that changed that. She started hanging around a family who prioritized health and nutrition as much as we did. The mom of this family also taught her children to read labels, limit sugar, and be conscientious about what goes into their bodies as much as we did. My daughter loved this family, respected the mom, and saw the kids having a positive, fun attitude about the food choices they were given. This changed my daughter’s attitude towards me and my healthy ways. She suddenly saw that we weren’t some freakish family who didn’t have dessert all the time. She began to embrace health as a process that can be fun. It also gave her something in common with a friend she loved dearly. The power of friends!!

7. Make Health Fun!!

The most important piece of teaching health to your children is to make it fun!! The journey of health can be enjoyable. Kids will gravitate to people and situations that are exciting, new and makes you laugh. Don’t lecture them on healthy choices, make a game out of it. Recently, in our family, we have gotten into juicing. I have been trying many different ways to put together tasty and healthy fruits and vegetables. Last week, I put together what I thought was a great healthy combo: spinach, kale, and apple. I gave my kids a glass and asked them to rate it. My son has a thumb rating system. Thumbs up is a 10 (best ever!) and thumbs down a 1 (it sucks!). They both gave this drink a thumbs down and told me it was horrible. We all laughed at my attempt to get kale and spinach into them. Back to the blender I went. Next up was spinach, apple, banana, orange, and lemon. Although it looked green and healthy, they loved it! Two thumbs up! They giggled as they drank it, and teased me about my how I was trying to make them healthy. The process was fun and full of good nutrition. This morning I told them that we were going to make our own chocolate. My daughter turned to her brother and said, “Look out, She has some freakish healthy chocolate recipe.”. We all laughed, yet I know that we will have a great time discovering new ways to make chocolate together.

So make health in your household fun! Teach your kids that health is a journey to be enjoyed. Model for them that health should be a priority. And every once and awhile drink an Izze with them.

Cheers to better health in your family!!

One of the more common questions that patients ask me is “Should I cleanse?” And, if so “What cleanse do you recommend?” I have a personal rule that I won’t recommend anything to my patients that I haven’t tried myself. Over the past fifteen years I have tried several cleanses, including the Master Cleanse, the Fast Track Detox cleanse, the Watermelon Cleanse, a Gallbladder Cleanse, and many different protein drink-type cleanses. The challenge with many of these cleanses is not so much doing the cleanse (although that can be a challenge), but how to reintegrate your “normal” food back into your digestive tract. You can feel fabulous while you cleanse, but if you are drinking a special cleansing shake/drink for 10 days, it can take several weeks to a month for your body to feel like it is digesting food properly again. I especially noticed this with people who do the Master Cleanse.

In my opinion, cleansing is a very personal decision. No one can tell you to do it. You have to REALLY crave a cleanse. You need to be highly motivated to make a change in your health. Because of that, I have been a little gun shy to recommend cleanses to people. It’s difficult for me to prescribe a cleanse. You have to really want it. Recently, two things happened that made me change my mind on cleanses. The first one was a movie called “Fat, Sick, and Nearly Dead” which is a story about a man whose lifestyle and bad food habits were literally killing him. After being fed up with all the medications he was taking and getting very little result, he decided to take his health into his own hands. For 60 days he drank nothing but fruits and vegetables. His results were remarkable! Not only did he lose weight, he got off his medications and massively turned his health around. All of this came from drinking fruits and vegetables. What I love about this movie is that it is a very simple concept that I preach daily in my office: less processed foods, more fruits and vegetables. It is a very inspirational movie and, if you have any desire to cleanse, I highly recommend you watch it.

The second thing that changed my mind on cleansing is the staggering statistics on how our poor eating habits are the cause of 80% of all chronic illnesses in our country (including most cancers), and the overwhelming number of my patients who are waking up to this fact and seeking more information on what they can do nutritionally to avoid certain diseases. I have another personal rule: when people reach out to me with a desire to live a healthier life, it is my mission to help assist them on that journey.

So two weeks ago, as an office, we did a five day fruit and vegetable cleanse. It’s called the Reboot Express Cleanse. We had over twenty people participate. It was simple, not always easy, but the results were huge. The options for food were vast. It required that we cook more and constantly eat so our energy did not dip. What I witnessed over these five days was that it required people to reach for healthy alternatives throughout their day. They couldn’t reach for a Starbucks at 3 o’clock when their energy dipped. Instead they looked to good, nutritious food to help boost their energy. Patients pointed out to me how acutely aware they became of the bad food choices they normally made and how great they felt replacing them with an apple or carrot. Some people discovered how much they loved fresh vegetable juice and how much energy it gave them after they drank a glass. Many people were more committed to cooking in their kitchens and discovered some new recipes that they will continue to use long after the cleanse. My son and I invented a new recipe called the sweet potato taco. The reward for several people was the feeling of pride they had about themselves for accomplishing such a feat. Most everyone dropped weight and enjoyed the benefits of feeling lighter. I also noticed that people had a healthy glow to them at the end of the five days. Was it all the good nutrients with which they had just saturated their bodies? Or was it the incredible feeling one gets when you know you are doing something great for your health? Whatever the reason, I saw twenty healthier people at the end of the five days. Many of those people implemented new, healthy habits that will stick with them for years to come.

Who should go on a cleanse? In my opinion, anyone who is looking for a change in their health could use a cleanse. If you have reached that point where you are sick and tired of how you feel, then a cleanse is a great option for you. If you have just come off a holiday or vacation and have overindulged, cleansing is a great break to give to your body. If you are on several medications and feel like you are getting sicker as the years go by, ABSOLUTELY try a cleanse. Cleanses are also great for people who are trying to lose weight and feel like their metabolism is stuck. If you plan on following healthy eating habits after the cleanse, then go for it and cleanse a couple of days to reignite your metabolism. And perhaps the best reason to go on a cleanse is to get a fresh start on implementing new healthy habits into your life. It’s like a clean slate for your body. Just remember: it’s what you give your body after the cleanse that will determine your health for the future.

What type of cleanse should you do? I strongly urge you pick a cleanse that teaches you good eating habits. We did the Reboot Cleanse and you can find all the info you need about that cleanse at www.jointhereboot.com. We did the Reboot Express, which was 5 days long. They also have a cleanse that goes 15 days. That requires 5 days of juice fasting. Although that may sound challenging, I know several people who have done the 15 day cleanse and felt fantastic.

How should you expect to feel on a cleanse? It depends on your eating habits prior to the cleanse. If you currently eat a lot of processed foods, sugar, alcohol, or caffeine, the first few days may be challenging. What I like about the Reboot cleanse is that they recommend you do a pre-cleanse the week before and remove those items from your diet. I strongly recommend this!! It will make your cleanse more enjoyable. In general, you will have highs and lows on a cleanse. Some moments you will feel fantastic, and other moments you may feel tired and irritable. If you hang onto a cleanse long enough, you should feel more energy, feel lighter, and even feel euphoric.

What’s the best way to succeed at a cleanse? Surround yourself with people who support you. I loved doing this cleanse with our Family Life Chiropractic community. It was fun to go into the office everyday and hear the process everyone was going through. We gave each other ideas and cheered each other on. We also were accountable to each other, which can be extremely helpful during the tough moments of a cleanse. We also chose to do it Monday through Friday, when we were the busiest and couldn’t be distracted by social gatherings or downtime that might let our brains decide to give up.

No matter which cleanse you choose, anytime you take a few days to commit to being a healthier you is a win for your body.

Happy Cleansing!

Last Monday, the first person on my adjusting table was a woman who has been battling cancer for the past five years. She is deeply invested in changing her lifestyle habits so that her body is better equipped to fight the cancer. For the past few months, I have been working with her to help relieve some hip and knee pain that she was experiencing. Her first comment to me this particular morning was “So I know you already know this, Dr. Mindy, but I am starting to realize that when I eat grains, I have more aches & pains”. We chuckled a bit at the rhyming nature of her comment, but then I went on to discuss with her why this happens.

There are many foods in our diet that initiate an inflammatory reaction in our body. What this means is that when you eat these foods, your body inflames. In my experience the place that people feel that inflammation first is the weakest, most traumatized, spot in their body. If they have an overuse carpal tunnel condition, they will feel it their wrist. If they have low back pain, they will feel it in their low back. If they have digestive complaints, they will notice more bloating & irritation in their stomach. I had a patient one time that had a mysterious thumb pain that would not go away no matter what we did, the minute we got her off of wheat, the pain was gone.

What are those foods that cause inflammation? Some of foods you want to avoid to keep inflammation down are white and wheat flour, white sugar, white and wheat pastas, cereals, cookies, crackers, chips, hydrogenated vegetable oils, margarine, corn oil, soybean oil, and safflower oil. One of the most important foods to stay away from if you are experiencing chronic pain is anything with wheat. Wheat contains a protein called gluten that will promote inflammation in the body, causing the gut to become leaky. Gluten increases a chemical called Zonulin, which opens the gaps between cells in the lining of the gastrointestinal tract. The more wheat a person eats, the leakier their gut becomes. When the gut is in stress the body will initiate the inflammatory response to try and heal it. Just like your body would inflame after spraining your ankle. A leaky gut also predisposes the body to develop all sorts of problems from bacterial imbalances, yeast overgrowth, food allergies, suppressed immune system, and can lead to the development of several autoimmune diseases. Bottom line is wheat promotes inflammation, and when you are trying to heal the body from diseases that are caused by inflammation, this is counterproductive.

One of the best explanations of why wheat is harmful for us was recently explained in an interview with William Davis, a preventive cardiologist who has a new book out called “Wheat Belly”. He does an excellent job giving us a simple explanation why recently we are seeing more people suffering from wheat intolerance. According to Dr. Davis wheat is so bad for your health, that it should carry a surgeon general’s warning. Check out the link to below to see his interview.

http://www2.macleans.ca/2011/09/20/on-the-evils-of-wheat-why-it-is-so-addictive-and-how-shunning-it-will-make-you-skinny

My recommendation to you is that the next time you find yourself dealing with chronic pain, get off the grains for two weeks and see if it goes away. It may seem like a difficult task, but it could be the one thing that gives your body that little bit of love it needs to heal itself and allow you a pain free day. Whenever I am looking to make a change in my diet to improve my health, I always think of Tony Robbins quote: “Nothing tastes as good as healthy feels”

Cheers to a healthier and happier you!

Hello & Welcome to my blog!

I am a chiropractor in Silicon Valley who has been serving health in my community for over 15 years. Thousands of people have walked through my doors seeking more health and happiness in their lives. My goal with this blog is to share with you the conversations I have had with my patients outlining successful steps people have taken to live healthier lives.

I strongly believe that health is a journey, not a destination. The information available about nutrition, fitness, pain relief, and disease prevention can be overwhelming. What I try to do for my patients is break it down into the simplest and most applicable format possible. Getting healthy should not be a full time job, nor do you need a doctoral degree to understand it. Getting healthy should be fun, easy, and with time the most rewarding adventure you ever embark upon.

I hope you resonate with some of the topics that we shared in my office and more importantly I hope that you find some inspiration here that moves you to take new steps to live a healthier life. As you follow the posts and learn more about how to take your health into your own hands, I know that you will discover that everything in your life blossoms when you health blossoms. Cheers to a healthier and happier you!!

Back pain and pregnancy are no longer two words that go together. During pregnancy back pain can be safely treated by a chiropractor. All chiropractors are educated in the treatment of pregnant women, but many women feel more secure finding one that has specialized training in pregnancy and pediatrics.

Since chiropractors do not use more force on the vertebra than is necessary, it is completely safe for a woman to see a chiropractor while she is pregnant. During pregnancy, women’s bones tend to soften as they prepare to give birth. With this being said, it is usually much easier for a chiropractor to make adjustments to her spine that will help alleviate back pain. There are also reported instances where the baby is in a breech position and the chiropractor was able to coax the baby into the proper position before birth.

Seeking the advice of a chiropractor during pregnancy has other benefits too. Some examples include being advised on the proper support gear, and safe stretching exercises to alleviate back pain, as well as being able to massage her muscles and adjust joints back into place.

Although some might try to say otherwise, there is no reason that a woman cannot enjoy the benefits of chiropractic care during pregnancy. It is safe and effective for both the baby and the expectant mother.

While it is important that a pregnant woman follow some simple rules to ensure minimal pregnancy back pain, it is equally important that they seek out the care of a qualified professional so that they can receive individualized treatments.
